Continuing On

And so we continue on!  I see some of the Monkeys are continuing to work on their Revolutions.  I can’t wait until retreat to catch up with them on how they are doing!  As for me, I’ve been doing pretty okay with mine.  I’ve managed to keep on with the elliptical for 3 whole weeks now.  I believe they say it takes 21 days to form a new habit so it looks like I really am making some serious progress there.  So much so that I think next week I’ll bump myself up from 15 minutes to 20 minutes.  Baby steps….baby steps….  I’m afraid if I go all in that I’ll doom myself to failure by trying to do too much too soon.

Have you ever done that?  Try to do too much too soon or all at once?  I’m fairly guilty of that even with my quilting.  As you can tell with the 3 projects I have looming…  However, I have not made much progress with the quilts…although I would like to say otherwise.  Maybe this weekend I can start to make some headway.  I have no excuses either.  Typically I like to wait until the smallest blonde is napping so I can work uninterrupted and not have to play “Where can I put the rotary cutter so he can’t reach it”.  These days I have to get fairly creative.  It is quite heart stopping to turn around and see your toddler holding your rotary cutter.  Thankfully he is still in the phase of handing things over when Mommy asks in a non-panicked voice.  I’m thinking that this is practice for when he gets older.  Lord help me…

Anyway, I have to say I’m with Hattie on quite a bit.  Ridding weight, ridding stuff, ridding guilt.  Those all sound really good to me and I’ll admit that the ridding of guilt is something that I hadn’t really thought about.  Blanche was on a similar track with her Power of Positive Thinking.  It’s funny isn’t it?  How alike  we all really are?  That we are all looking for progress in similar areas of our lives.  I’m sure we will all get there. One step at a time and while we might not all arrive at the same time, I’m certain that we will all get there eventually.

Without much quilt progress to report, I thought I would turn to my yarn work.  However, I don’t really have much progress to report their either.  Although, I have turned some projects over.  I finished a baby afghan for a new great-nephew and attempted to teach another niece and great-niece how to crochet.  I finished some amigurumi creatures and I believe that I need to do some more work on that before embarking on more.  I finished a crocheted basket for a Christmas gift and did manage to sew 2 Mickey Mouse pillowcases as well as complete a Mickey Mouse colored afghan for the Small Blonde’s school basket raffle.  I’m curious to see how that goes over this Saturday.  I’ll be sure to get a picture so I can post how it looks in the basket.  In case you are wondering what exactly that looks like….the top 1/3 is black and the bottom 2/3 is red with big yellow buttons.  Not buttons in the sense of what you find on your clothing, they are big yellow crocheted areas to represent the buttons on Mickey’s trousers.  So, I guess that is a fair amount of progress in the crochet area.  I’ll go with that.  It makes me feel more productive.  Of course I have a few crochet ufo’s….not nearly as many as quilting though.  We will see what this year brings.  Maybe I can get some of those taken care of, both the fabric and yarn projects.  We shall see when retreat time rolls around.

Here’s to hoping you continue to make progress on your Revolutions!

Doing my best

To keep the Revolution going!  Big Kudos to Blanche for successfully staging her Revolutions last year and continuing with the good fight this year!  I hope my other monkeys are finding success in their endeavors.

Now, however, it’s time to get back to the quilting stuff.  After all we have retreat in another month and I need to be way further along than I am right now.  Why do I say that?  Well, I have 3, count them THREE wedding quilts that need to be finished.  One is very close.  Very Very Close.  By very close I mean that I only have a 2 block to fix and then the pieced border and assembly followed by the quilting and binding.  That wedding has already happened so I’m really feeling the crunch on getting it done.

My next quilt is in the process of being cut.  I still have a long way to go plus it’s paper pieced so I also need to make copies of the pattern.  I was also hoping that I could get some of them pieced before getting to retreat.   It is fairly cool if I do say so myself.  It is colors that I will describe as sea glass and is a combination of snails trail and storm at sea.  I’m pretty excited to see how this one comes out.

The last one that I need for a wedding hasn’t been determined yet.  By that I mean I am having trouble trying to decide on a pattern.  I did have it narrowed down to two, but after getting a look at the registry, I’m not sure that their color scheme will work with either pattern.  I’ll need to sleep on that for a bit.  Hopefully not too long because it’s the next wedding up and I need to get it done!  No stress there….

How are you coming on your projects?  I’m hoping this will be a good spring-board to continue getting projects done!  Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted.

It’s time once again!

I bet you are thinking that I’m talking about retreat again.  Well, it is time (or past time) for us to get our registration forms in.

It’s time (once again) for us to stage our Revolutions!  How did you do last year?  I will admit that I did not do very well.  I am optimistic (as we all are at the beginning of the year) that I will make more headway.  My goals this year?  I’m betting that they will be similar to ones that you may have.

First, I would like to lose some weight.  Preferably somewhere where I won’t find it again.  I think my revolution is off to a good start as we cleared out the area where the elliptical stands and I’ve managed to get on it 7 times in 2 weeks for 15 minutes a pop.  I’m not really worried about how long I’m on it at this point.  I’m more concerned about creating the habit.  So far so good.  At least the initial skirmish has gone in my favor.

Second, I would like to be more organized.  I feel like this is the most important one for me and the one that I struggle with the most.  I will admit that our initial skirmish has not gone in my favor and now I am circling some  blogs for inspiration and getting back in the habit of making lists so I can find a direction to go in and feel some accomplishment when checking off those items finished.  At least that makes me feel like I am more in control of this revolution, but we shall see how things proceed.

Thirdly, I would like to get some UFO’s completed!  I won’t dazzle you with how many I have.  I suppose it would be fair to say that I don’t really know how many there are.  I’m also not going to run up and count them because I fear that would be too depressing.  I haven’t helped my case either by having 3 projects that are on deadlines.  One of which the deadline has passed…..yikes!  I’m getting close though.  Blocks are finished just need to put them together, add the border, and quilt.  The other two haven’t been started just yet.

That’s really it for me.  Three things.  It doesn’t feel like much, but then I don’t want to stage a revolution on too many fronts.  Of course part of being more organized means posting here more.  Yea!  I know you are terribly excited about that.  I know I am.  After all, you just never know what we’ll talk about next!

I’m curious to see how whether the Monkeys have staged any revolutions of their own.  I hope you are also staging your own revolution and I wish you well on them!
